A note on the name. The planet does not need saving. It has survived five mass extinctions already and will survive this one too. It has no interest in whether primates keep writing dashboards about it. This site tracks homo sapiens' own margin for survival. That is why the title says so now.
The other species counted here are not resources. Not natural capital. Not ecosystem services. They deserve protection for their own sake. Finnish has a word for this that English does not: luonnonsuojelu, nature conservation as its own goal. Ekologia, used loosely, often just means smarter exploitation. This site aims for the first. Where the text fails that aim, it is a mistake, not a position.

For roughly 800,000 years, CO₂ oscillated between about 180 and 300 ppm with the rhythm of ice ages. In the last two centuries it has shot past that entire historical range.
